Why have HSE manuals and policies?
Health, safety and welfare at work are the subject of strict and all pervading legislation. Compliance is essential. Because the subject is so large, we suggest you read our free information page.
Who will use this manual?
HSE12 is a comprehensive 'all round' manual for use in the poultry farming industry, specifically, for farms where poultry is either produced as a primary source (or a secondary source), or where poultry is 'manufactured'. We have other specific HSE Manuals for farming with animals, and without animals.
We have identified the main causes of accidents and ill health within the poultry industry and targeted these aspects in detail. This includes a section dedicated to the risks and prevention of avian influenza. Within the poultry farming industry there are many different variants such as the species of bird produced, whether they are 'layers' or used for their meat and the type of enclosure used (free range or not) to mention just a few. This manual deals with the most important health and safety issues for every type of poultry farm. If a section is not specific to your farm, simply erase it.
Processes specific to your business entail specific risks. The more specialised and dangerous your operations, the more you must liaise with your H&S inspectorate and take detailed advice on aspects of your H&S policy which will require additions to your manual. What we have provided in this version are comprehensive and detailed provisions relating to the poultry farming industry.
If you know of specific risks local to your business, we can draft a bespoke document for you.
Lengthy but not laborious
As you will deduce from the size of these documents, they are very thorough. However, they are written in plain English. The size of the documents is merely so that all areas of HSE legislation are covered.
