Your website design contract
This page is for website writers. If you are a client needing website work, click here.
We provide:
  • A very comprehensive website design agreement - you negotiate terms and both sides sign it; or
  • Terms and conditions for your website design work - take it or leave it; your clients have no choice.

The main problems encountered by professionals:
  • Every contract is different; so one size does not fit all;
  • Clients do not know enough about the subject to understand the issues;
  • Clients have unrealistic expectations;
  • Clients do not do the work that should fall to them;
  • (To be fair) you may not know a great deal about your client's business.

Net Lawman has drawn a contract to cover all the issues you know will arise and many you never even thought of.  This agreement has been used very many times and refined as new ideas have been brought forward.  It enables the whole contract to be drawn in many alternative ways.  You just delete the paragraphs that do not apply to your way of doing business. You do not need legal knowledge to understand it.  It is drawn in plain English.

Why the Net Lawman contract can save you many hours of work?
Your client knows precious little about the Internet - let alone about web site design and writing.  He expects you to do it all and set it up so that he can watch the money roll in.  He knows it is important that he has a first page ranking on Google - and expects you to put him there.  If you agree, read on.

If you were selling cars, not websites, it would rather as if you were the design engineer, draftsman, interior designer, safety expert, production line, testing manager, and salesman.  But you are not selling cars; you are selling website design and write services.  The point we make is that you have to explain all this to every client, then you have to ask your client to agree what you are about to do for him, and when and how much he will pay you.  Small wonder then that web site litigation is growing fast.
A County Court claim, settled reasonably early, might cost you £10,000.  How many claims can you afford?

Our website design agreement is best used as your own standard contract.  So first you will need to read it very carefully and make sure its provisions accurately reflect the way you do business.
Next, check that the general form of quotation or estimate that you use also matches the website design agreement as closely as possible.

Now you have all but cracked all that tedious process of educating potential clients.  Of course, you do not put up your contract on your web site.  You use it as the basis of discussion when you meet or correspond with an interested prospect.  Use it as an aide memoire, as an agenda.  When you have taken your client through it, they will know as much as they need about what you do and why your proposition is such very good value.

You only have to by the Net Lawman contract once to be able to use it for ever.
Net Lawman is experts in e-commerce and can help you set up not only your website design contract, but all your e-commerce documentation, fast and efficiently.  The fact that we charge around half the rate of your commercial law solicitor is just a bonus.

The website design agreement is drawn for signing by you and your customer.  You can make it as tough or as gentle as you like!  The terms and conditions are an alternative.  They will be useable only if your work can be treated as a standard product.

If by chance you find some error of law or fact in any Net Lawman information page, do please tell us. We should also welcome your suggestions for new subjects for information pages. These notes:
