About this document
This is a simple licensing agreement that allows a creator of an original work to grant use of it by another person or business in return for payment, and under other terms that restrict when, where and how it may be used.
The work may be a photograph, an illustration, a painting, written text, music or anything else.
Rights of ownership remain with the creator, allowing him or her to license the work further to other parties.
In order to make it clear where the document should be edited, we drawn it so that the work is a series of articles that a newspaper wishes to publish. However, it can be easily edited to allow artwork to be used on posters or on a website, or music to be performed at an event.
This document is written in English law but is suitable for use when your counter party is in some other legal jurisdiction, and can apply to whatever countries you allow him to cover.
Alternatives to this agreement
If you expect to receive a royalty (a series of payments, or continuous payment) for commercial exploitation of your copyright work, rather than a single payment, use this agreement instead. It also covers many more options.
